The most important agricultural workforce in Kenya is the small farmers. These people own less than five acres of land each, but together, they represent up to 75% of the total workforce in the country. They work in a very old-fashioned way and almost all of them lack applied technology

The most important tree in the region is the Casuarina equisetifolia which is planted sustainably as one of the programs of country growth.

The KARI (Kenya Agricultural Research Institute) was founded by the government as a semi-autonomous institution.

KARI took over the KEVEVAPI (Kenyan Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute) and the KETRI (Kenya Trypanosomiasis (also known as Chagas disease) Research Institute.

KARI is also in charge of the KASAL (Kenya Arid and Semi-Arid Lands Program) which focuses on the development of site-specific agricultural technology
